Witty Pi 4 L3V7 can not "see" what kind of battery you are using: it only sees the voltage feeded to it.

As long as your battery's output voltage is in expected range, it will work.

Witty Pi 4 L3V7 itself already has some (but not all) protections: the overcharging protection from TP4056, the short-circuit protection on the output side from DC/DC converter MP3423.
